From the Publisher
Ever since their creation in 19th France, Adolphe Braun's photographic images have been uniformly praised for their beauty. Trained as a textile designer, Braun initially used the nascent technology of photography to produce a marvelous and thoughtful presented herbarium, providing designers and art students with a source book of natural models. Having established his reputation as a top-ranking photograher, he went on to document everything from French landscape and architecture to the events and legacies of the Franco-Prussian War.

Book Description
Image and Enterprise is the first American publication to survey the work of the important 19th century French photographer Adolphe Braun. The book was prepared in conjunction with an exhibition of materials from French and American collections. Braun's photographs of flowers began a career that emcompassed dramatic alpine views, reproductions of great artworks, and more. Six essays address the relationship of photography to industry and the fine arts and its role in the development of contemporary culture.
