Photograph of the tableaux 'Greek Poetry' performed at Balmoral Castle. The performers are (left to right): Princess Beatrice of Edinburgh (1884-1966) playing a Greek maiden seated with her hands on her knees; Princess Alexandra of Edinburgh (1878-1942) as Sappho standing on a plinth and playing a small Greek harp or lyre; The Honourable Ethel Cadogan (1853-1930) as a Greek maiden seated, her chin resting on her hand and Frau Passavant standing in profile as a Greek maiden.

This tableaux was performed on Queen Victoria's 75th birthday in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle as part of a birthday surprise. The Queen recorded in her journal that 'Sandra looked so pretty in [Greek Poetry] as Sappho with her lyre, but the stage was too dark, & I could not see well, even with glasses.' RA VIC/MAIN/QVJ (W) 24th May 1894.
