Supplemental information

Michael Mutmansky earned a degree in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in illumination engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He also obtained a minor in architectural history. His studies enabled him to gain a full understanding of two- and three-dimentional design aesthetics, architecture, and the architectural design process. This insight has helped Michael develop a unique photographic vision where the tenets of good architectural design; the balance of mass and void, the play of light and shadow, come through in his photography.
Since graduation Michael has continued his personal advancement in photography by working with large format and ultra-large format photography and alternative processes. His photographic works focus on the intimacy of landscape and the intricacies of architecture. His personal work explores the fundamental geometries of the built environment as an expression of human creativity.
Michael began working with platinum/palladium printing in 1999, and has recently gained recognition as an emerging artist in this medium. He has recently expanded his printing capabilities with the addition of gum bichromate printing as another avenue to interpret an image. In most cases, Michael will print a gum bichromate layer over a base printing done with palladium, so the prints are a combination of both processes.
Michael uses various large format cameras, from 4x5 for most commercial photography, to an 10x12 and 7x17 for his personal photography.
