(typed note attached to verso of (replacement ?) mat: Captain Thomas Scott, 2nd. Regiment Artillery, New York State Volunteers. Watercolor by John Mulvaney. Signed and dated 1863. / John Mulvaney….1844-1906. Specialized in painting Western Indian, and army life. Best known for his 'Custer's Last Rally'. (From Fielding's 'Dictionary of American Painters'. / Accompanied by framed parchment of Captain Scott's commission dated 1864.
