In the foreground the cobbled road is visible, edged with a pavement, then a low wall with crossed railings between stone upright posts. Beyond this is an area of trees and shrubs, then the beach. Small boats are seen on the beach and on the sea, close inshore. The Bay of Naples occupies most of the right side of the image. Towards the left, the trees become more dense, beyond that in the distance the city is seen rising on a headland. To the right is the Castel dell'Ovo off the coast.
