In 1933 Walker Evans took a series of photographs of Cuban society for Carleton Beals's book The Crime of Cuba which was an expose of the corruption of Cuban dictator Gerardo Machado and the exploitation of the country by the US. This series is examined in the book Walker Evans: Cuba
