This party of Sixty-two who were piloted through the wilderness from the screne of the massacre, to a place of safety by ANPETU TOKECA, (Other Day), a christianized Indian. Among the party was the Rev. Mr. Riggs, (a missionary,) and his family. The picture was taken by a young photographer, (an irrepressible Yankee) who had but the day before the massacre arrived in the Indian country for the purpose of getting views of Indian life, who formed one of the escaping party, and "saved his baggage."
