 | Experimental and manipulated photography
Manipulated photography includes any steps during the taking of the photograph through to the creation of the final image that alter the "truth" of the visible world. This might include the selection of capture methods (i.e. infrared) that alter the reality of the visual image prior to capture, through the handworking of negatives so common with Pictorial photography, hand-colouring or the post-processing of digital images in Lightroom, Photoshop or other software. It can include scratching negatives, writing on prints, collage, photomontage or the intentional, or unintentional, burning of prints.
This topic will include experimental photographic forms including:
- Using living forms to create photographs. This technique uses specially created negatives and the sun or a suitable light and heat source to allow grass to grow at differential rates and thereby create pictures. (For example: Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey)
- Printing photographs onto plants. (For example: Binh Danh)

 | Travel Details on individual tourist sites such as the Colosseum, the Acropolis, the Pyramids and many others are included in the "Geographical regions" section. I'd like to extend this section with information related to the tours of Thomas Cook, railroad excursions, early family travel albums and the diaries of photographers as they toured the world. If you have examples I'd be grateful if you'd let me know. |
 | Vernacular Vernacular photographs appear like confetti thrown through contemporary culture with the photobooth portraits in the film Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) or the innovative novels of W.G. Sebald. Their inclusion in a series of exhibitions at major institutions, such as the showing of photographs from the Robert Jackson collection in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, has encouraged acceptance within the wider community. When John Stezaker won the 2012 Deutsche Börse photography prize with his photocollages he was the first to win the award without taking photographs. By combining found photographs into quirky juxtapositions he creates alternate and, at times, surreal realities.
On 17 April 2014 Swann Auction Galleries (NYC) held the first auction devoted solely to Vernacular photography. This is an indication of scarcity within the vintage market but also of the acceptance of vernacular photography by collectors and institutions.
This section will include the rediscovery of the banal by Martin Parr, the re-use of found photographs by artists such as Joachim Schmid, and those who use Flickr, Creative Commons tagged photographs and Google Street View images as a resource. The compulsive collecting of discarded photographs of everday life in pre-digital China recorded by Thomas Sauvin is a further example of the interest in vernacular images as their physical existence declines to be replaced by non-printed digital forms. | Instantaneous photography Photobooths Real photo postcards Snapshots

 | Guidelines, manuals and instructions It is difficult to construct an online exhibition for this topic as the front covers and title pages of the books are not visually appealing. If anybody has high quality scans or a suggestion on how to handle this topic I'll be happy to reconsider.
Another issue is the linking of the manual covers to the full texts of the books on Google Books - this is more tricky than it at first appears as the viewable volumes vary between countries because of different copyright restrictions.. |

 | Africa The history of photography in Africa is fragmentary with North Africa and South Africa being well studied and most other areas based on a few notable photographers. This is an invitation for anybody who has researched the history of any country or region to get in touch so we can share findings for the benefit of all. Is anybody researching the archives of the missionary societies and archives of expeditions? Any research on newspaper or regional archives would be appreciated.
