They are arranged in a group facing partly to the left. Seven are mounted on horses, three are standing in front of them and two are lying on the ground. Sergeant Hamblin, the mounted soldier to the far left, is raising his sword with his right hand. Private Clifford, the soldier on the ground to the right, is looking through binoculars. All are wearing military uniform. There is a building behind with three large windows with wooden shutters. The Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882 repressed the nationalist ‘Urabi Revolt and led to increased British control of Egypt. This photograph was taken in Cairo.
