Jaques Babinet wearing his Légion d'Honneur and the medal Saint-Hélène. You can see them very detailed. This photograph was also used for an engraved portrait of him. In 1812, J. Babinet entered the École Polytechnique. The following year, he was admitted to the Metz School of Artillery and Engineering. After becoming an artillery officer in 1814, he abandoned his career in arms in 1815.
