Portraits of Bill

This is the story of my husband, a man of strange and extreme personality changes. This particular body of work is based on what is real and what is not. Each picture may seem like a comedy, but is really a small part of of a complex man. Together all the images form a portrait of a man, who is somewhat vulnerable and at the same time strong. A man who challenges life to the fullest. I hope these pictures allow you to see that images are not always what they seem to be. (Joy Goldkind, April 2006)

Portraits of Dancers

"Portraits of Dancers" is a portfolio of images that capture the spirit of individual performers rather then images of dance movements. The photographs are of people who are extremely creative, possess a singular beauty and are so compelling that they draw the viewer into their world. With this portfolio, my desire has been to show dancers as both actors and subjects who can create a world of fantasy. Sometimes they have shown their inner beauty as well, a facet of quietness often in a lovely personal place that the public does not see as they dance. They have also revealed a glimpse of personality that is playful and allows them to create a world that is unknown to others.

Most of the dancers I have met have studied from early childhood. Many of them are very successful. Each of them wanted to pass their gift on. They are from a variety of countries with a multitude of traditions but all of them held a common goal to study dance and a commitment to work on their art studiously. What I have seen working with each of them is an ability to work long hours to perfect a beautiful grace. (Joy Goldkind, April 2006)

Adagio

This new body of work is more of an abstraction of the dancers figures. The work is about the movement of the body through space and light. These images are more of my departure from reality into the rituals of dance and music. As with my past work the spirit of the person is more important the actual portrait. Now trying to combine the dancer with the movement of dancing. The body moving is an essential part of all dances. Here we try to capture just a few moments in time. (Joy Goldkind, Sept 2006)
