| | | Stanko Abadžic Prague
This exhibition of the work of the Croatian photographer Stanko Abadžic coincides with his first US exhibition "Out of the Shadows" at the John Cleary Gallery, Houston, USA (April 27 - May 26, 2007) .
These black and white photographs show every day life in the Czech capital of Prague, a city that Stanko loves deeply. The images appear to come from a different age and critics and dealers have compared them to works by the great documentary photographers - Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andre Kertesz, Willy Ronis or Robert Doisneau. These comparisons are highly appropriate as the shadows, lighting and camera viewpoints do not mimic in a slavish way the works of other artists but rather continue, and respect, a photographic tradition.
These works are not about undigested novelty - rather they are about a deep understanding and appreciation of location and the little moments that gently pass by.
