I was thinking recently that it is difficult for people browsing the Luminous-Lint website to get a sense of the scope of this project and so I have decided to include occasional online exhibitions of recently arrived images. These will not be themed but rather encourage us to wonder at the variety of photography. On Luminous-Lint hundreds of ideas for future exhibitions are in planning and here you will see some of the images that will be used in those.
You may say "But where are the boundaries?" and the answer is there aren‘t any other than quality - it is about encouraging us to achieve a more holistic understanding of the complexities of the history of photography. We include contemporary conceptual photography but are just as inclusive of obscure 19th century Daguerreotypists, Arab photojournalism, signatures of famous photographers, Hungarian abstract images or photographic medals and stamps. As the website evolves we‘ll slowly establish patterns and historic trends out of the material.
Many of you are providing images, preparing biographies, compiling exhibitions, making corrections, fact checking and assisting in so many ways. This exhibition is a small tribute to all those that help and love photography.
If you get as much pleasure out of looking at this diverse material as I do in bringing it together we will be doing fine. Look and marvel at the diversity that is photography.
