Amateur, Burma
MD, Edinburgh, 1862; Curator, later Superintendent of the Indian Museum, Calcutta 1865-86. Anderson served as naturalist with several expeditions to Burma and Yunnan between 1867 and 1882, and to the Mergui Archipelago, 1881-2, during which he took a number of photographs; some of these reproduced in his Mandalay to Momein (1876).
Author: A report on the expedition to Western Yunnan, via Bhamo (1871), English intercourse with Siam in the seventeenth century (1890).
