Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, 24; in NY, 49,
then to St. Louis where in 52 he joined an
ox-team immigrant party and made his way to
Sacramento. After working in a furniture store
he moved to Marysville; ordered the first sewing
machine in the area to be shipped around the
Horn and began to service the mining area; moved
to Oroville, 56 and built a general store with
photographic gallery at the rear of it;
