Indian Medical Service 1856-78. Served in Indian Mutiny 1857-8, advance on Cawnpore, first relief of Lucknow, Sep 1857; second defence of Lucknow, Sep-Dec 1857.
An early member of the Photographic Society of Bengal (joined 26 Sep 1856), ‘Dr Gayer contributed some fine copies of prints and some views in Calcutta’ at the meeting of 18 Feb 1857.[1] Eight collodion prints of his views of Calcutta were shown at the society's exhibition of 1857.
