Photographer who recorded the everyday events of the American South as it went through the civil rights turmoils of the 1950s and 60s.
On September 12, 2010 the article "Photographer Ernest Withers doubled as FBI informant to spy on civil rights movement. He provided agency with insider's view of volatile period" was published by Marc Perrusquia in The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, Tennessee) that provided evidence that Ernest Withers was an FBI informant between at least 1968 and 1970.Preparing biographies
