French experimental photographer and inventor. He was fascinated by the study of movement (he used the term ‘chronophotographie‘) in animals and man and his photographic inventions were a continual quest to improve his understanding of the processes involved. One of his inventions was a photographic gun that used a 20m roll of 35mm film and was capable of taking 12 images per second.
His publications included Le Vol des oiseaux (Paris, 1890) and Le Mouvement (Paris, 1894).
