Chief Auditor, Madras Railway. Took the photographs in the Illustrated Guide to the Madras Railway (Madras, 1898). Three photographs by Dunsterville are reproduced in Robert Sewell, A Forgotten Empire (Vijayanagar) (London, 1900).
President of the Amateur Photographic Society of Madras in 1892 and had ‘had most to do with the formation of the Society in January 1888.’[1] The society in 1892 was apparaently in a poor state, Dunsterville having ‘consequently given notice of aproposition that, under the depressing circumstances stated above, it would be advisable to close the Society,’ unless membership could be increased.’
Exhibited at Simla Fine Arts Exhibition 1899: ‘Of those exhibitors who have just missed an award, Mr. Frederic [sic] Dunsterville is a good first. The six pictures are a very miscellaneous set as regards subject … Falls on the Cauvery, Mysore is another capital picture by Mr. Dunsterville’ (Journal of the Photographic Society of India, vol. XII, no. 9, September 1899, p. 161).
