Product Details Paperback 160 pages Vilo Intl Published From the Publisher When in Rome! This is one of the richest historical sites on earth--a place of unparalleled cultural significance that is at the same time a fully functioning modern city. For this book, an eclectic mix of photographers were asked to step out onto the streets of the Eternal City to form a kind of composite portrait of the city and its people. The book is introduced by the Ancient History scholar Claudia Moatti, who reflects on the photographers' brief: to show Rome as a mix of different historical periods. At the time these images were taken, new restoration works and archaeological digs were under way, particularly around the Imperial Forums, the Gate of Octavia and the via Appia, and these also informed the photographers' reflections on time and memory. Each photographer brought a unique vision to the fabric of the city--Couturier's and Koudelka's views, for example, are very different; yet each has caputred the breath of life and truth. This book was commissioned by the Town Hall of Rome. |
