Welcome

In the last three weeks the following exhibitions have been released on Luminous-Lint:
  • Royalty and Photography in Europe: An Introduction curated by T. Max Hochstetler has a highly informative introduction by Dr Robin Lenman, general editor of The Oxford Companion to the Photograph (Oxford University Press, 2005) on the relationships between the nineteenth century royal families of Europe and photography.
  • Edward Quinn photographed the stars as they visited the French Riviera in the 1950s and 60s.
  • Claudia Kunin takes us into mythic worlds with her Holy Ghost Stories - this is a larger representation of the work that has just appeared in Eyemazing (Issue 04 - 2007). I was also pleased to see on the back of the same issue that Joy Goldkind was the Eyemazing 2007 Winner.
  • A selection from the works of the American Pictorialist George H. Seeley has been added and I will be announcing an exciting development on this photographer shortly.
  • George S. Zimbel has kindly provided examples of his body of photojournalism including his 1954 series of Marilyn Monroe during the filming of The Seven Year Itch.
  • In this series by Milton Rogovin he documents the social inequalities of Buffalo.
  • The photographs of George Krause with their quirky touches.
  • Erotica: Artist studies has been improved with the inclusion of works by J.M. Cañellas taken in around 1890 and four examples by G.L. Arlaud from the Vingt Études de Nu en Plein Air portfolio (ca 1900).
  • Rodney Smith with his fashion, and at times slightly surreal, photography.
  • Least wanted: A Century of American Mugshots continues our exploration of vernacular photography.

Collaborating to create better resources for all

The next step and how you might be able to help:
  1. Keeping up to date

We supply information on all aspects of fine photography to collectors and connoisseurs worldwide. Please ensure that we receive your newsletters and exhibition announcements by checking that aware@luminous-lint.com is on your mailing lists.
  2. Biographies

If you have prepared a biography on a significant photographer please send it through. You retain all rights and will be fully credited. You may well be the only person that has researched a particular person and you will assist us all. Your older exhibition catalogues and books may provide a wealth of material that can be mounted and shared.
Improving all the time

This week we made another jump forward with over 300 online exhibitions and over 25,000 photographs. The numbers themselves are not the significant point but how this rich wealth of material can be used to provide exciting insights into fine photography. Connoisseurs explore, and actively participate in Luminous-Lint - it is the largest, richest and fastest growing Internet resource on all aspects of historic, vintage and contemporary photography.

Your knowledge, insights and enthusiasm are appreciated so join in when you can.

Thanks for all your support and friendship,
Alan Griffiths

Competition - No. 3 is ongoing...
Book coverTo celebrate the 100th anniversary of color photography Pam Roberts has authored an authoritative overview A Century of Colour Photography: From the autochrome to the digital age and the publisher Carlton Books has kindly supplied some copies for us to give away on Luminous-Lint.

For our ongoing competition I‘d like to hear about a 19th century photographer not included on this website who should be! So send through your suggestion with any biographical details you have - dates etc and the reason the person should be included to comp3@luminous-lint.com with the name of the suggested photographer as the subject line. Two winners will be selected at random and will be announced in a future newsletter. Good luck.
