| Newsletter for Collectors - Vol 5.4 | Oct 1, 2011 | | | Home • What‘s New • Photographers • Online Exhibitions Visual Indexes • Galleries & Dealers • Timelines • Techniques Library • Contact us Greetings and welcome to another Luminous-Lint Newsletter and I hope you have had a refreshing summer. It has been a while since the last newsletter, back in May 2011, as I have been concentrating on Visual Indexes and the inclusion of bibliographies for individual photographers. These are rudimentary but we‘ll improve them as we proceed. The emphasis in this newsletter is on Fashion and Costume.
NEW ONLINE EXHIBITIONS
WARNING Some of the online-exhibitions in this Newsletter contain images that may be considered disturbing and if you are of a sensitive disposition I would advise against viewing them. You have been warned. |
- The Strange Worlds of Paul Biddle
My inspiration and influences range from Renaissance art to Dadaism and Surrealism, from Picasso to the flotsam and jetsam that I pick up on my walks by the sea near my home. Paul Biddle
- Photomontage - USSR in Construction
The listing of the issues has been provided by Jon Evans, Director, Hirsch Library Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. We welcome further details on this important magazine so we can include a complete listing for research purposes.
- Wilson A. Bentley: Snowflakes
Seems appropriate as the weather in Canada moves towards winter - brrrrr....
- Fashion 1960s
The 1960s remains one of my favourite periods of Fashion Photography as I was living in London at the time - a bit young to be involved but I do remember in the early 1970s being almost run over when crossing an alley in Soho by a car in which Twiggy was a passenger. She was one of the faces of the 60s for the best of reasons - she was stunning and photographed well. This was the period when David Bailey, Brian Duffy and Terence Donovan demonstrated their talents in fashion photography.
- Fashion 1950s
Continuing on with online exhibitions of Fashion Photography here is the 1950s with Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Irving Penn, Fritz Henle, Norman Parkinson and others.
- Fashion 1940s
An online exhibition of the Fashion Photography of the 1940s including works by Norman Parkinson, Toni Frissell, Cecil Beaton, Horst and other photographers.
- Fashion 1930s
An online exhibition showing a selection of Fashion Photography from the 1930s including classics such as Martin Munkácsi "Lucille Brokaw" (1934) and Horst "The Mainbocher Corset, Paris" (1939).
- Fashion: 19th century - Dating - Ladies
These are as an aid to dating photographs based on fashion and costume.
- Fashion: 19th century - Dating - Gentlemen
- Fashion: 19th century - Dating - Children
- Fashion: 19th century - Dating - Mixed
- Van Leo: An Armenian Photographer in Cairo
An exhibition from the vaults.
Here is next batch of online exhibitions for Luminous-Lint that I would welcome scans for and advice on.
- William Henry Fox Talbot - The Ladder - ARE YOU A PHOTOMONTAGIST? Apologies on this and hopefully I will shortly be sending out a JPG of the photograph below to a group of photomontagists so they can incorporate it into a new artistic work for an online exhibition on Luminous-lint and possibly real world exhibitions. If you are interested in flexing your artistic muscles and participating get in touch. alan@luminous-lint.com
- Drawing and optical devices - We are pretty close to completing this online exhibition which will cover the camera obscura, camera lucida, silhouettes, physionotrace, optical boxes, pantograph and perspective devices. If there are collectors who would like to be involved or have expertise to share let me know. Illustrations and photographs of devices welcome along with the details of contemporary artists who use them.
- QR Codes - Is anybody investigating the use of QR codes within museum and galleries to bring up standardised bibliographic information and comparative photographic examples on mobile devices for visitors? If you are we should talk as I have some ideas.
The online exhibitions on Luminous-lint are never static so if you have better quality scans or a correction let me know.
Join in when you can - sharing makes the world a better place.
