Charles T. Scowen arrived in Sri Lanka, c.1873. Opened photographic studio in Trincomalee Street, Kandy in 1875. By 1885 there was also a Colombo branch at 19 Queen Street. By 1894 the firm was managed by Mortimer Scowen and soon afterwards the stock appears to have been taken over by the Colombo Apothecaries Company.The firm produced some of the finest commercial work in the island in this period. Mortimer Scowen remained in Sri Lanka as a proprietary planter until about 1915.
