*[Also found as Chromoplast-Verlag] Trade-name for extensive series of lithographic views, probably the best quality ever made; they are scarce in the U.S. Earliest series of 12 views each credited Hans Hildebrand, Stuttgart, as editor and photographer; later series of 6 views each carried logo of "F Ph G", by Jacobs & Kosmehl Verlag (publishers), Luitpoldstrasse 15, Berlin. Catalog exists listing 53 groups, each with 6 views, for a total of 325 images; however, later series with logo of "F Ph G" went to series #58, #339. These series were re-issued and extended to series 71, #420 with Logo "VC" or "CV" (letters intertwined), probably standing for Chromoplast-Verlag. The commonest, as well as most spectacular are the "nature" groups: Birds, insects, plants, minerals, etc.; most have detailed info. on back about the image. However, they also issued general scenic coverage of Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the Middle East, and North Africa. They were created from LumiŠre color originals; early images by Hildebrand; later photogs. unknown.
