| The brothers Ienake Manaki (1878-1954) and Miltiade Manaki (1882-1964) have innumerable variants of their names. They were early photographers and later filmmakers in the Balkans. In 1898 Ienake opened a photographic studio in Epir (Ioannina). In 1903 they photographed a popular uprising for the Roumanian newspaper Universul. In 1904/1905 they moved to Bitola (Monastir) in Macedonia and opened the Atelier for Photographic Art. In 1906 they became official photographers to the Romanian Court. In 1906 they exhibited their work at the International Exhibition in Bucharest and won two gold medals and one silver medal. At the exhibition cinematographic equipment was also being exhibited and they took up filmmaking almost immediately becoming the earliest filmmakers in the Balkan region. In 1911 they became photographers to the Ottoman Court, and to King Aleksandar Karadjordevic of Yugoslavia in 1929.Preparing biographies
