Captain S.H. Jones-Parry recounts purchasing the photographs of Stilfried and Anderson in Yokohama:
I took advantage of the lovely day to walk round the suburbs of the town, and then looked over "Stilfried and Anderson's" magnificent collection of photographs. In all my travels I have never come across anything to equal them. In Italy I have seen finer specimens of architectural subjects; in America finer portraits; but, taken all round, Stilfried and Anderson rank first. I selected fifty costumes and scenery that were especially interesting to me, and had them bound up; this book has been the admiration of hundreds to whom I have shown it.Preparing biographies
