Civil War; after discharge, went to Buffalo, NY
where he learned photog.; practiced in PA next,
OH, WV, & New Orleans later; to San Francisco in
6/87 and began to pub. CA images; joined by his
son, George A. McDonald in 92; listed in San
Francisco 87-92; active until at least 98.
