Artist statement:

I don’t really have an artistic statement. That’s why I produce images. I believe they should stand for themselves and I shouldn’t have any need to explain myself, or them. Maybe that’s old school but if I needed the written word to express myself I’d be a writer.

After having spent 30 years producing photographs on assignment for magazines and advertisements I choose to photograph whatever it is that catches my eye that day. Having been cooped up in a studio for 3 decades I happen to prefer landscape now. It’s very different than contriving photographs and I like having to adapt to what I have been presented, rather than having the complete control I was accustomed to in the studio.

One thing I have noticed in the time I have been doing landscape photography, we’re losing our planet to the strip mall and parking lot. And while one of my early requirements in my landscape work was to produce work without the hand of man appearing in the scene, that requirement proved unrealistic. You can find the presence of Man in even the most unlikely of places. Some of my newer work embraces that unfortunate reality.

Hmmm, maybe I do have an artist’s statement after all.
