Preparing biographies Approved biography for Carl J. Agrell (Courtesy of Christian Peterson) | Carl J. Agrell was born in Superior, Wisconsin, on February 20, 1900, and made his way to Minneapolis by 1920, when he was listed in the city directory as a student. He became an enthusiastic outdoorsman and in 1924 began practicing as a dentist. He joined the Minneapolis Camera Club, and exhibited his work in the Minneapolis Salon of Photography in 1933, 1934, and 1935. Agrell made some of his pictures with paper negatives, a process that imparted soft-focus effects and allowed manipulation of the image by hand. In 1938, he moved to St. Paul, where he continued as a dentist until his death on July 14, 1967. Christian A. Peterson Pictorial Photography at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Christian A.
