French naval captain, explorer, daguerreotypist and later admiral and Governor of New Caledonia. Lithographs bassed on his daguerreotypes taken in north east Africa were included in his book Voyage a la Côte Orientale d’Afrique, exécuté pendant les années 1846, 1847 et 1848, par le Brick le Ducouedic (1856). The book included portraits of the residents of Ras Hafun, Mogadishu, Zanzibar, and Mombasa.
