British documentary and portrait photographer based in Liverpool, UK. His studio house at 59 Rodney Street, Liverpool is now a National Trust property and is open to the public. This property is the only known studio in Britain that remains with the photographer's records, equipment, photographs intact. Liverpool Record Office (www.liverpool.gov.uk/archives) has an online catalogue of over 22,500 of his photographs.
