Names: | | Dates: | 1842 - 1896 | Active: | Japan | Between 1865 and 1976, about forty French engineers monitored Yokosuka’s naval shipyard, Yokohama’s foundry and several other industrial projects. Emile de Montgolfier, engineer at the Yokosuka’s arsenal and descendant of the famous Montgolfier Brothers and fond of photography was designated to make photographs regarding the evolution of the Yokosuka’s naval shipyard, the Yokohama’s foundry and its surroundings. He therefore took the opportunity to put his own touch in some photos. The architectural composition and the artistic approach conveyed gives its photographs a real poetical atmosphere.
