A photographer with a rich and varied career who earned a degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1927. In 1933 she married Gordon Macgregor who was an anthropologist for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. They traveled the U.S. visiting the Indian reservations in the 1930s and she photographed the daily events of the residents and the photographs were published in "Twentieth Century Indians" (G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1940). Her study of a year in the life of the Massachusetts town of Hingham was published as "This Is America" and was co-authored by Eleanor Roosevelt (G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1941) "This Is America" was presented in dramatized form featuring Frederic March and Paul Robeson on "Treasury Star Parade", a radio program to raise money for war bonds. Following this she had a distinguished career in medicine specializing in facial disfigurement and reconstruction.
