Keen amateur photographer and first President of the Photographic Society of Bengal, 1856-7. He took photographs of the Andaman Islands during an expedition in December 1857.

Appointed to officiate as deputy Apothecary to the East India Company on a salary of Rs. 200 per mensem (G.O. 16 December and Mil. cons. 16 December 1840 No. 202, Calcutta Gazette, 19 December 1840. Appointed to officiate as Professor of Chemistry and Materia Medica in the Medical College, and to relieve Dr O’Shaughnessy on the 1st proximo (Calcutta Gazette, 3 November 1841). Appointed Professor of Chemistry and Materia Medica at the Medical College at Calcutta on a salary of Rs. 400 per mensem (Calcutta Gazette, 18 December 1841) and placed at the disposal of the Governor of Bengal, for employment in the Medical College (G.O. 27 October 1841). Conducting the duties of Chemical Examiner to Government. Employed in collecting and arranging for the Medical College a museum of Materia Medica (Mil. cons. 6 May 1842, No. 199). Appointed Secretary to the Council of Education, from 1 May 1843 (Calcutta Gazette, 3 May 1843). Appointed Member of the Council of Education (Calcutta Gazette, 1 July 1843). Leave from 10 April to 10 June on P.A. (G.O. 4 April 1845). Leave from 10 April to 10 May 1849 (Calcutta Gazette, 17 April 1849). Appointed Professor of Medical and Clinical Medicine in the Bengal College, from 15 November next (G.O. 11 August 1849). Leave to sea, on S.L., for six months, from 10 January 1851 (G.O. 27 December 1850). A.L. cancelled from 17 June, the date of his return to Bengal (G.O. 20 June 1851). Reports by Drs Jackson and Mouat on the treatment of Indian diseases and especially of cholera, in manner advocated by Dr Baleguer, submitted (Mil. letter from Bengal, 26 November 1852, No. 247 [97]). Appointed ex officio first Physician of the College Hospital (G.O. 21 March 1853). Appointed to officiate as Chemical Examiner to the Government (G.O., 6 May 1853). Promoted Surgeon, 1 December 1853 (G.O. 8 December 1853). Posted to the 3rd Native Infantry (G.O. 24 December 1853). Cancelled (G.O. 11 March 1854). Allowed a furlough to Europe, on P.A., for twelve months, new regulations (G.O. 3 March 1854, Mil. letter from Bengal, 24 March 1854). Commenced 20 April 1854. A.L. Court confirm, the resolution permitting him to be absent from his appointment in the Calcutta Medical College, on P.A., for twelve months, with liberty to resume it on or before the expiration of that time (Mil. desp. 4 October 1854, No. 35). Returned to his duty, arrived at Fort William 15 April 1855 (G.O. 17 April 1855). Appointed Presidency Surgeon (G.O. 20 April 1855). Placed at the disposal of the Government of Bengal, and appointed officiate as Inspector of Jails, in the Lower provinces (G.O. 16 November 1855). Appointed Inspector of Jails in the Lower Provinces (G.O. 29 December 1855). Placed temporarily at the disposal of the Government of India (G.O. 27 November 1857).
