A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia

 
Amateur, Burma
Public Works Department, India. Educated at Thomason Civil Engineering College, Roorkee. Joined Public Works Department, 1883. ‘On deputation to study architecture of the Indo-Mahometan styles, November 1891 to July 1893’. Executive Engineer, Allahabad in 1910 (not checked further). Photographs by Oertel are reproduced in George W. Bird, Wanderings in Burma (Bournemouth, 1897). 41 albumen prints by Oertel are pasted into his Notes on a tour in Burma in March and April 1892 (Rangoon, 1893). Also author of Indian architecture and its suitability for modern requirements (1913, reprinted from the Asiatic Quarterly Review); Inspection notes on some multiple filter installations, Puech-Chabal system (London, 1913).
