Son of George Henry Welling and half-brother of James William Newland (qv), in whose daguerreotype and photographic studio in Calcutta he worked from c. 1857-60 as assistant, partner and finally (after Newland’s death) as manager. Evidence of their relationship is provided in Newland’s will. [1]
Married Cecilia Clark (b. c. 1835) at Burdwan on 25 Nov 1858, described as ‘daguerreotype artist.’
