Supplemental information

Riebicke was the most important sport, dance and nudism photographer in Germany between 1925 and 1935. His images were widely printed in Germany as well internationally in magazines, newspapers and books. His work was published also in several issues of the famous German photography yearbook "Das Deutsche Lichtbild". His images were also included in the legendary avant-garde photography show "Film and Foto" in Stuttgart (1928), and Vienna (1930). The Riebicke photo archiv in Berlin was destroyed in large parts during the war.

In 2000, Riebicke had his first one man show at the Berlin gallery Bodo Niemann, which published the only monograph about him and his work. In 2002 the large exhibition "Nudes in the Photography of Gerhard Riebicke, 1924-1935", at the Moscow House of Photography, was a tremendous success.
