[4-5] Made stereo dags, none known of FL. Early wide-ranging dag. worker, LA, FL, Caribbean, England; New Orleans, 44, partnership with William Hutchins; Apalachicola, FL 45 -- "Still in city taking colored miniatures."; 46-48 in New Orleans; exhibited at American Institute, NY, forty views of West Indies, two views of Florida, the Cotton Landing, Apalachicola, and Key West; according to the Daguerreian Journal, considered disposal of collection to a well-known illustrated paper in London; traveled to South America in 52; returned to U.S. in fall, opened gallery in New York City and engaged in making stereoscopic daguerreotypes -- "The Stereoscopic likenesses and views exhibited by Whittemore...Splendid collection of West, Indians and South America. Exhibit free. Every size of daguerreotype taken." During the Crystal Palace Exhibition (NYC) in 53, daguerreotyped works of art to aid engraver for illustrated catalog. Sold gallery in 53, seems to have left photography; name does not occur in following years. SEE Humphrey's Journal, 53, p.89.
