Dates: | 1945, 15 April - | Born: | The Netherlands, Heerlen | Active: | The Netherlands | Website: | www.thijs-foto.com | Contemporary Dutch photographer. Artist statement: "The great variety of subjects were a challenge to look for alternative print techniques. To come closer to the impression given by the image Henk Thijs choose for the nearly forgotten techniques like bromoil, gum and cyanotypes. The possibility of using colour, in a very restricted way, opened the means to achieve the impression he wants."

Henk Thijs
Many years of making portraits of artists, resulted in an exhibition in the Photography Museum Den Tempel in Sittard.
Henk has also had different assignments for theatre and ballet companies in journalistic photography, such as photographic work for the Ballet van Vlaanderen, the Nationale Toneel in The Hague and the Stadttheater Aachen. His assignments were published in both newspapers and weekly magazines.
After this period Henk's photographic work moved towards candid photography: trying to catch the beauty of the ordinary and coincidental contrasts, instead of creating a surrounding. Give meaning to the daily life of people by eliminating them of their environment.
Henk lives and works in the Limburg region south of the Netherlands, near the border of Germany and Belgium.
