acquired his first camera after the turn of the
century; graduated from Stanford, taking stereos
before WWI, & cont'd. until the late 30's when
he began to use 35mm color; following his D.
1952 collection was stored in haphazard fashion
at the family home in Palo Alto; much of the
cataloging info. was was destroyed before it was
realized what it pertained to; most of glass
negs. broken or scratched; many views were
family snapshots, and many scenics have no
