A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia

 
Commercial, Sri Lanka,br> Originally a watchmaker in Colombo from 1851-54, listed as ‘watchmaker and daguerreotypist’ from 1855-59. Made an unsuccessful attempt to photograph Governor Ward turning the first sod of the Colombo-Kandy railway, 3 Aug 1858. In 1860 he advertised himself as a photographer, in the same year selling his business to William Skeen; left Galle on the Nubia, 21 June 1860. Erroneously credited by P.M. Bingham with introducing photography to Ceylon (see entry under S.F. Barrow).[1]
