Active:  US
One of the less well known photographers of the American Civil War. At times he he managed Mathew Brady's Washington Studio as did Alexander Gardner. He photographed Gen. McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, Seven Days Battles, Battle of Gaines' Mill, and Battle of Malvern Hill. Occassionally who took which photographs is unclear and some photographs are credited to George N. Barnard and James F. Gibson.

[6] "By..."; "Photographic Incidents of the War"; made many fine groups of views of northeastern war area; all pre-63 views were CR by him but issued under "Brady's Album Gallery". B. Scotland 28 or 29; employed by Mathew Brady, Washington, DC till 62; afterwards worked with Alexander Gardner; 64 managed Brady's Washington Gallery till 68 when the gallery went bankrupt.
