Indian Medical Service (Bombay) 1845-66; Assistant Surgeon 1845; Surgeon 1862; Surgeon-Major 1865.
Several lithographed views of Baghdad, reproduced in Memoirs by Commander James Felix Jones… (Selections from the Records of the Bombay Government, XLIII, new series, Bombay, 1857), are credited as being ‘From photograph by Assistant Surgeon J. McA. Hyslop.’ In his text, Jones notes that ‘The nine views of Baghdad which now follow are kindly furnished me by Dr. Hyslop. They are [from] photographs of his own taking, quite true, though somewhat indistinct owing to deterioration of the collodion.’ (p. 311).
