Eldest son of John Oman (planter) and Maria Jane Helena Eweler; baptised 24 Dec 1841 at St Andrew’s Church, Calcutta;[1] m. Ellen Agnes Hodges 1866;[2] Indian Public Works Department (Accounts Branch), 1866-77; Professor, Government College, Lahore, 1877-97 (retired); Principal Khalsa (Sikh) College, Amritsar, 1898-9. Author of numerous works on Indian religion.
