A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia

 
Commercial, India
‘Lately from Europe, North and South America’, opened a daguerreotype studio at 15 Barrack Street, Cape Town in February 1851. 38 Loop Street, Capetown in December 1851; Britannia Street, Port Elizabeth in January 1854; left Capetown (for India?) 1856; Daguerreotype artist at 5 Hare Street, Calcutta in 1858 (or earlier) and at 7 Old Court House Corner in 1859. Advertising as photographer and portrait painter at 12 Dhurrumtollah Street, Calcutta, 1861-2. He committed suicide in Calcutta 29 Dec 1861, aged 40. Paul had previously visited India and had called at Capetown on a voyage from London to Calcutta in February 1844.
