Printed biographies

The following books are useful starting points to obtain brief biographies but they are not substitutes for the monographs on individual photographers.

• Evans, Martin Marix (Executive ed.) 1995 Contemporary Photographers [Third Edition] (St. James Press - An International Thomson Publishing Company) [Expensive reference work but highly informative.]

The wit and wisdom.

"I have always liked to photograph people of all ages. I‘m fascinated by the way skin metamorphoses over time, from infancy to old age. And I find people of all body types — from heavy to thin — interesting as well."
"I want to allow others to reveal and celebrate aspects of themselves that are usually hidden. My camera is a witness. It holds a light up for my subjects to help them feel their own essence, and gives them the courage to collaborate in the recording of these revelations."
"I'm mesmerized by the way mirrors seem to have a magical life of their own. For me, reality is a combination of our outer and inner realities, and the use of mirrors and other techniques, like double exposures, leaves room for the unknown to emerge."
"People are the center of my work and I'll always be interested in their inner life. It's what's below the surface that continues to fascinate me."
