John Falconer, British Library A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia | Amateur, Tibet, Central Asia
2nd son of Rt. Hon. Rickard Deasy, Lord Justice of Appeal (Ireland). Educated Bournemouth ahd Dublin; gazetted to 16th Lancers 1888; resigned commission 1897; commenced exploration in Western Tibet 1896; awarded Founders’ Gold Medal of Royal Geographical Society for exploration and survey work in Central Asia during two expeditions lasting three years (see publications); created world record in 1903 by driving from Caux to Rochers de Naye in Switzerland; married 1901, Dolores, daughter of Colonel J. F. Hickie of Slevoyre, Co. Tipperary; one son, one daughter; address, Choc Na Faire, Carrigahorig, via Birre, Eire.[1]
Twenty views taken in Kashmir by Deasy presented to the Royal Geographical Society in 1893.[2] Another collection of views, taken in the Pamirs and Turkestan by Deasy and A. Pike in 1896-99, was presented to the Royal Geographical Society in 1900. [3]
Publications: In Tibet and Chinese Turkestan. Being the record of three years’ exploration (London, 1901).
