Brazilian photographer.

Artist statement:

"Photography has played a big role in my life since I was six years old, when my grandmother gave me a box-camera as a birthday gift. I used to make drawings and attempted to create comic books like the ones I loved to read, but the magic of making photographs revealed itself unsurpassed.

When I was 21 I spent a year in London, where I could discover the work of great masters like Irving Penn, Avedon, and Kertesz. When I moved back to Brazil I had the intent of making a living as a photographer.

My first jobs were small assignments for the music industry and advertising agencies in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Eventually I had a fully equipped studio and was able to shoot mainstream ad campaigns as well as sleeves for bestseller records by Brazilian singers and musicians.

In the mid-eighties I participated at the early stages of computer graphics, thus becoming one of the first photographers to use digital techniques in Photography. Last year I partnered with fellow photographer Marcia Ramalho to develop 'The Cool Cam', a mobile app which features signature filters and effects.

A recent achievement was to have my work acquired by several museum and private collections, and to be represented by galleries such as Tepper Takayama Fine Arts (Boston), Fotospot (Sao Paulo), and Marsiaj Tempo (Rio).

Photography has now been my profession for almost forty years and I have always managed to develop authorial work alongside my commercial career. However this year I decided to dedicate myself exclusively to personal projects and, by doing so, I hope to strenghten my bond to Photography as a path to artistic expression."
