Son of Serge Levitsky (1819-1898) who was one of key figures in introducing photography to Russia along with being the leading court photographer in St. Petersburg. Rafail came from a well connected family with photographic, artistic, literary and aristocratic connections. He worked at the studios of his father in St. Petersburg took some of the iconic photographs of the ill-fated Russian Imperial family in the years before the Bolshevik Revolution. The studio was closed by the Soviets in 1918.Preparing biographies
