Shelley Calton's photographs vacillate between their lucidity and the secrets that lie within. Her selective inquiry of the human form and various objects explores thier relationship between intimate surroundings and the circumstances of the moment. Calton's images draw the viewer in with their sensual grace revealing a lingering mystery, beginning a dialogue that the viewer must finish. Shelley's inspiration mostly comes from the people, places, and subjects that she photographs. Her selenium toned, silver gelatin prints are taken with a medium format camera. A native Houstonian and former student of Amy Blakemore for several years, Calton attended Glassell School of Art. Other influences come from workshops with Debbie Fleming Caffrey, Keith Carter, Tony O'Brien, and Paul Elledge.
